Community Acupuncture

Our Community Acupuncture Mission

Health Connect Shen aims to offer low-cost acupuncture to the community through a community acupuncture model for 3 hours on a Wednesday. Our goal is to offer people as much acupuncture as they want, in support of whatever goals they have, so that they can use it in whatever way works best for them.

Statement Of Inclusivity and Ethics

Health Connect Shen works to create a safe and comfortable environment for all members of our community. We welcome people of all genders, sexes, races, colours, incomes, national origins, ages, abilities or disabilities, marital statuses (legal or otherwise), familial situations, religions, sizes and shapes, sexual orientations, and political beliefs. Your level of care will never be based on any of these factors.

About The Community Setting

Community acupuncture is a way of delivering acupuncture to make it affordable to more people. When acupuncture is too expensive, people often don’t get enough treatments to get good results. Our goal is to make it possible for you to get as much acupuncture as you want to get though currently within a limited time frame. Wednesdays 9.30am to 12.30 pm.

If you are new to Community Acupuncture, then please book an Initial appointment first and complete and submit the new patient form. The link is in your confirmation email.

PLEASE NOTE: - that if you require complete privacy and would also like a herbal consultation included in your Initial appointment or extras like moxa, cupping, massage then this is not the appropriate style of Acupuncture appointment.for you and please book for a full initial Acupuncture and Herbal consultation which you can do online here - or call 0493260261.

With community acupuncture, instead of treating people in separate, individual rooms, we treat everybody in a shared space, in recliners. You do not need to disrobe but make sure you wear loose comfortable clothes. Once you are comfortable in a recliner you like, we will generally ask you to take off your shoes and socks, roll your pants up to your knees and your sleeves up to your elbows. Most conversations happen at the whisper level because there will most likely be at least one person who is asleep in the treatment room at any given time.

If you require a private consultation, we can accommodate this with a separate room for the consultation and then you will go back to the shared space for your session. After your acupuncturist puts the needles in, your job is to relax and let them work. Your session is 30 minutes and after your 30 minutes we will remove the needles and receive payment (you can also use your private health fund if you have it) then we will see you next time.

We have ambient music in the treatment room; however, you are also welcome to bring personal listening devices if you prefer your own music or guided meditation. People do snore sometimes, so if snoring bothers you, you should consider bringing a listening device or earplugs. You are also welcome to bring your own neck pillows or blankets if you prefer them to ours. We won't be offended.
